They say that when it rains it pours, and that has certainly been true for me this year. As 2014 comes to a close, I’m reflecting on what a full year it has been. There are those times in your life that you just remember — they’re so filled with defining/pivotal/BIG moments that you can barely keep up. I will always remember this year as the year I became a mother. My husband and I have been blessed with a beautiful baby boy that has filled our hearts and changed our lives.
In some ways, it has been a year of challenges. I did not have a particularly easy pregnancy, but I was determined to take care of my body and keep my cool in order to healthily reach the amazingly rewarding finish line (mission accomplished). When I was six months pregnant, my husband had a health scare. Without sharing too many details, I’ll just tell you that he had surgery, he recovered, we got through it. Onwards and upwards. More recently (as in three weeks ago), I slipped on ice and broke my leg. Talk about bad timing – I JUST returned from maternity leave only to be out of work for another 6+ weeks. And, taking care of an infant with a broken limb isn’t the easiest. On the bright side, this means I have more time with Baby M, which is supremely important to me.
Finally, 2014 has, in ways, been a year of loss. My grandmother passed away just a few weeks ago…….and I witnessed others losing close family members and friends. Never have I been so aware of how fragile life is, nor have I been so grateful for the health and presence of my family. This leads me to my new year’s resolution – which is to always be thankful, and to live life as fully as possible for every single moment. It’s a tall order, but aiming high isn’t a bad thing.
2015, here I come. Let’s toast to the next chapter.
